Prayer Calendar - February 2023

Praise items and prayer requests coming from within ANiC, ACNA and the Anglican Communion for each day of this month.

  1. Pray for Bishop Dan Gifford (& Cathryn) in these early months of his tenure as diocesan bishop of ANiC. May God grant him all the health, strength, discernment, vision and the passion he needs for this heavy responsibility. Pray for protection for him from illness and fatigue. Grant him Gospel zeal as he cares for the clergy and parishes in Canada and New England.

  2. Our diocese and province – Pray for the Anglican Network in Canada and all of our parishes across Canada and in New England. Pray for revival in our churches and their neighbourhoods. May great passion for the Gospel be a hallmark of each congregation. Pray for our primate, Archbishop Foley Beach (& Allison), as he gives godly leadership to the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA). Ask the Lord for great wisdom as he and the College of Bishops make important decisions around the growth of Gospel ministry. Pray also for him in his strategic role as chairman of the Gafcon primates’ council.

  3. Pray for Bishop Stephen Leung (& Nona). Pray for health, protection, wisdom and vision and the ongoing ministry of AMMiC. Pray for Bishop Don Harvey (& Trudy) in his roles as ANiC’s episcopal vicar and as senior chaplain to the ACNA College of Bishops. Pray also Bishop Charlie Masters (& Judy), ANiC’s bishop of evangelism; Bishop Trevor Walters (& Dede), bishop of mediation, Bishop Ron Ferris (& Jan), bishop of church planting and retired Bishop Malcolm Harding (& Marylou). Thank God for their fruitful ministries and may God continue to use them in service to the Lord.

  4. As circumstances escalate and tension increases both in Ukraine and in Russia, let us not lose heart, but persevere in prayer by beseeching God for mercy and an end to the destruction and desperate decisions. Pray for the churches in Ukraine and in Russia that they may bring comfort to those who have suffered needless loss of family members and may they share the transforming Gospel of Jesus in a time of desperate circumstances.

Pray also for growing church in Iran in the midst of great turmoil, protest and government crackdown. Grant to the Christians discernment and wisdom as they seek God’s guidance as to what role they should take in ministering to the hurting and persecuted.

  5. Pray for our Electoral Nominating Committee (ENC), chaired by Executive Archdeacon Paul Charbonneau, as they seek the Lord’s will concerning candidates for the office of suffragan bishop serving in western Canada to be elected at our diocesan synod later this year.

Today is World Mission Sunday across our diocese and province. Please pray that each parish will have the opportunity to "Tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous works among all the peoples!” (Psa 96.2) through some expression of evangelistic mission. For some great examples, this year’s “On Mission 2023” book with reports from various ANiC parishes is available from Amazon for a nominal fee or can be downloaded for free from our ANiC website - https://www.anglicannetwork.ca/news/2023/1/9/on-mission-2023-devotional-book

  6. ANiC’s 5 Ministry Priorities – Pray that God will use these five priorities to transform us and our parishes. Pray also for the leaders and their team around each priority:  Bold witnesses (Scott Hunt); Biblically grounded (Canon George Sinclair); Loving children & youth into the Kingdom (Rev. Jeremy & Kimberley Graham); On mission (Canon Brian McVitty); and Planting & Growing Churches (Canon Alastair Sterne).

  7. ANiC archdeacons, canons & all clergy – Pray for spiritual and physical protection and renewal as well as God’s blessing upon their ministry. Pray also for their spouses & families that God would grant them safety and health in body, mind and spirit and may the Lord grant them grace upon grace as they pastor those under their care.

Pray also for our extended Bishops’ Zoom Gathering today with our clergy as the Rev. Ben Roberts shares on the importance of Catechesis“the Church's God-assigned task of grounding believers in Christ and in the foundations of the Christian Faith“ – and the resources we have in ANiC available for such discipleship training.

  8. ANiC staff & volunteers, especially our new executive director, Rev. Canon Howard Edwards– Pray for strength for the tasks, faithfulness in service, and joy in the Lord. May God’s blessing rest on ANiC as we seek to know, love and serve Him. Pray also for ANiC’s council, chancellor & registrar – Pray for wisdom and servant hearts as they serve ANiC. May they know God’s leading, seek His will, and experience His joy.

  9. Asian & Multicultural Ministries in Canada (AMMiC) – May God bless and prosper their ministry as they reach out to ethnic communities and new immigrants with the transforming Gospel of Jesus, and engage in planting new churches. There are also plans for a church plant in Phnom Penh that is in its early stages. Pray for wisdom and protection in an environment sometimes hostile to the Gospel.

  27. Pray for Gafcon, our global family of authentic Anglicans standing together to retain and restore the Bible to the heart of the Anglican Communion. Pray for the fulfillment of their God-given mandate: “Gafcon works to guard and proclaim the unchanging, transforming Gospel through biblically faithful preaching and teaching which frees our churches to make disciples by clear and certain witness to Jesus Christ in all the world.”

Pray also for the highly important GAFCON IV conference to be held April 16-23, 2023 in Kilgali, Rwanda. These gatherings of orthodox Anglicans from all around the world have proven to be both a great encouragement and of strategic importance to the proclamation of the transforming Gospel of Jesus.

  28. As we move through this year 2023, pray for a fresh outpouring of repentance and revival upon our nations and our world! “Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence - as when fire kindles brushwood and the fire causes water to boil - to make your name known to your adversaries, and that the nations might tremble at your presence!” Isaiah 64:1-2 ESV
